TEACHING BUSINESS READING FOR FLF STUDENTS AT UFM

Skimming and Scanning

FLF lecturers begin a passage by emphasizing comprehension strategies such as skimming and scanning, which enable students to quickly extract relevant information from lengthy documents and reports. Moreover, given the vast amount of information business students encounter, mastering skimming and scanning techniques is essential. These skills enable efficient management of information, enhancing learning in business studies.

Explaining business contexts and vocabulary

FLF lecturers also teach students how to analyze the structure and organization of business texts to help them discern main ideas, identify key points, and draw connections between concepts. Incorporating vocabulary building exercises centered around business terminology and industry-specific jargon enhances students' ability to understand and interpret complex documents. Many FLF students have been forced to learn vocabulary in the lists of word after each unit. Business vocabulary can be challenging due to terms like "liquidity," "creditor," "inventory," "audit," "equity," "merger," and "revenue,", which hold specialized meanings within the business community.
